Brahmi (Bacopa) Oil
Also called Water Hyssop and Herpestis monniera, Bacopa monniera is native to the wetlands of Southern India, but commonly grows in the United States, Europe and Africa. It is a creeping perennial plant with small leaves and purple flowers found in warm wetlands. It is a very common amphibious plant of the Pan Tropics
where it occupies the banks of slow flowing rivers and flourishes well in soft to hard, even brackish water.
Brahmi
has been used to refer two different Ayurvedic herbs - Bacopa monnieri and Centella asiatica. Brahmi is a Sanskrit word that literally means the feminine essence of universal awareness as well as the promoter of subtle mindfulness. They are also both highly revered for their enhancing properties for the nervous system. If we delve deeper, we find that the dual use of the name Brahmi
can be understood in geographical terms; in southern India, brahmi
refers to Bacopa monnieri; while in Northern India, brahmi
refers to Centella asiatica.
