Ravintsara Essential Oil

Our organically crafted Ravintsara Essential Oil is steam distilled from the wildcrafted rich, green leaves of the Cinnamomum camphora evergreen tree growing wild in the highland rain forests of Madagascar. With its lively spicy, eucalyptus aroma, Ravintsara is a great essential oil to support a healthy respiratory system as well as a healthy immune system.

Ravintsara Essential Oil is often confused with Ravensara Essential Oil. Though both Ravensara and Ravintsara belong to the Lauraceae family and both originate from Madagascar, these two essential oils are quite different and are distilled from different plants. Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica) is distilled from the leaves of a plant by the same name, and Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) is distilled from the leaves of the Camphor tree. Substituting one oil for the other is not an option, as their therapeutic properties and aromas are very different from each other.

The botanical species Cinnamomum camphora has several chemotypes that are a result of its different conditions of growth, such as climate, soil, altitude, etc. To be clear, the three distinct essential oils of Cinnamomum camphora are produced from the three different chemotypes of the plant:
Hon Sho - the Camphor chemotype - which produces Camphor Oil
Ho Sho - the Linalool chemotype - which produces Ho Wood Oil
Yu Sho - the Cineole chemotype - which produces Ravintsara Oil.
